9-Year-Old Dead In Koreatown Crash, DUI Suspect Arrested: Police
The boy was riding a scooter with his older brother when a suspected DUI driver crashed into them, police said.
KOREATOWN, CA — A nine-year-old has died after being struck by a suspected DUI driver in Koreatown on Thursday evening, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The boy, identified by authorities as Nadir Gavarrete, was riding an electric scooter with his 19-year-old brother near the area of New Hampshire Avenue and Fourth Street around 7:30 p.m. when a driver trying to make a left turn crashed into them, according to police.
Gavarrete died at the scene, police said. His older brother was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, and the driver, who remained at the scene, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to the LAPD.
