Air Quality Unhealthy Range Across San Gabriel Valley Monday
The San Gabriel Mountains, East San Gabriel Valley, and Santa Clarita Valley are all impacted. Sensitive individuals should remain indoors.
LOS ANGELES, CA — The South Coast Air Quality Management District issued an unhealthy air quality advisory for several regions in Los Angeles County on Monday morning. The advisory covers the San Gabriel Mountains, East San Gabriel Valley, and Santa Clarita Valley. Sensitive individuals with respiratory issues are encouraged to remain indoors whenever possible.
The Air Quality Index tracks various air pollutants and deems high levels of ozone to be “unhealthy for sensitive groups.” AQMD predicts unhealthy levels of ozone in the San Gabriel Mountains and East San Gabriel Valley, and even higher levels of ozone in the Santa Clarita Valley.
Ozone is formed when pollutants from cars, power plants, refineries and similar sources are exposed to high levels of sunlight. Elevated levels of ozone are more common on sunny days in urban locations.
