"Relentless storms" that season caused extensive damage, forcing authorities to close the highway, State Route 2, between Islip Saddle and Vincent Gulch, Caltrans officials said.
Among the damage: runoff and slides from storms created large washouts and undermined the road near post miles 64.1 and 74.7. Additionally, storms created a series of small erosion gullies at post mile 65.8, leaving guardrails without support.
