⏰ Daylight Saving Time Poll! 🤔
Daylight saving time begins on March 12. According to history, we can thank entomologist George Hudson for coming up with the idea in 1895. Implementation took place in 1918 to save resources and extend the work day during wartime. In 1966, daylight saving time became the law of the land, but states could opt out. So far, only Hawaii and Arizona have done so. Now, there are dueling studies pointing to the successes and failures of the practice. Where do you stand on the issue? So far, 58.8% don’t like daylight saving time, while 41.2% do.
📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:
- “Tesla Terrorist” Update: We have more information on the 36-year-old man who was arrested as a suspect in at least six cases of attacking cars with a pipe. Reportedly, the driver “had a previous road rage arrest in which steroids were allegedly found in his car.” On Tuesday, he pleaded not guilty to charges of assault, criminal threats and vandalism. (KTLA)
- What’s a marketing price in L.A. real estate? According to Tuesday’s report, it’s when someone advertises a condo for $750,000 but then has the listing agent “strongly hint” that an acceptable offer would have to be closer to $950,000. And it appears to be a practice currently in place to stoke bidding wars. Caveat emptor! (L.A. Magazine)
- The Gemini Bakehouse at 2847 Sunset Boulevard is ending its operations. La Sorteds Pizza, currently sharing the storefront, will take over the space. If you want to say goodbye, visit on February 19 for a fundraiser and bake block party. (Gemini Bakehouse)
- Harmon Face Value at 10561 West Pico Boulevard is among the latest closures by retailer Bed Bath & Beyond. Another 7 locations will follow on the heels of the planned 126 closures revealed on January 11. For those with an eye on the market, the company announced a 33% reduction in sales, going from $1.88 billion in 2021 to $1.26 billion in the last quarter of 2022. (Press-Telegram)
- If you are one of the Angelenos who drank Celsius — the energy drink — you could be in for some settlement money. The company was sued for listing the drink as being preservative-free, but then containing citric acid. While the company argued that this was a flavor ingredient, it settled a class action suit that affects anyone who bought the product between January 2015 and November 23, 2022. If you’re great at keeping receipts, you might get up to $250. But hurry, the deadline for your claim is February 13. (NBC)
