Alternate Routes
During the weekend-long closure last month, motorists reported painful gridlock on both the freeway and nearby surface streets.

Caltrans recommends that motorists use other freeways to get to their destinations. For example, a driver traveling from the West San Fernando Valley to the Westside can avoid the 405 Freeway by taking the southbound 101 Freeway to the westbound 10 Freeway.

Those that must take the 405 can use the following alternate routes:
- Santa Monica Boulevard to northbound 405: Travel east on Santa Monica Boulevard and north on Sepulveda Boulevard to the on-ramp to northbound 405 at Moraga Drive.
- Sunset Boulevard to southbound 405: Travel north on Church Lane, south on Sepulveda Boulevard, west on Santa Monica Boulevard to the on-ramp to southbound 405.
