Brooklyn Ave. Pizza Co., located in Boyle Heights, is bringing owner and Chef Mario Christerna’s Mexican-American flare to delicious pizzas, wings, loaded fries, salads and cocktails.

Housed underneath The Paramount LA, one of LA’s longest running events and music venues, the historic space opened late last year. Huge windows overlook Caesar Chavez Avenue and the outdoor dining space created to welcome diners back for al fresco dinners.

The menu has a lot of interesting options including terrific Neapolitan style pizzas including a mole with Queso Oaxaca, curtido, crema and mozzarella; the La Bianca with fresh ricotta, calabrian chilies, spinach, caramelized onions and mozzarella; The Meat Lovers with the chef’s signature beef and pork recipe, pepperoni, hatch chili, sausage and mozzarella and the Cherry Bomb with Sopressata picante, spicy piloncillo, pickled cherry bomb peppers and mozzarella. For those that don’t fancy a spicy pie, you can always choose the A La Vodka with a pink vodka sauce, shrimp, ricotta and lemon or create your own with a long list of cheese and topping options.

They also have innovative specials like a Blueberry Pie with blueberry, bacon, scallions and honey and a Carnitas Pie with carnitas, green salsa, chili flakes, scallions and crema.

Also unique is Christerna’s sides offering wood fried, flaming hot Cheetos, mole and lemon pepper wings and house, garlic parmesan and Chicano gravy thick cut fries.

Matthew Belanger and Lauren Corriveau teamed to create an innovative cocktail menu featuring Mexican inspired libations such as the Rough Rider Libre with aged rum, coke, crème de banana, lime juice and mole bitters and the Evergreen Negroni with Blanco tequila, bianco vermouth , verde, watermelon and aperol.

I loved the Agua Frescas, including a Jamaica-guava, pineapple cucumber mint and horchata, all with the option to add a touch of alcohol.

Besides the delicious food and libations, Brooklyn Ave. Pizza Co. also supports neighborhood initiatives including the Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory and C-Cap, a non-profit empowering underserved youth through the culinary arts.
