Carved Pumpkins Light Up Descanso Gardens

The family-friendly Carved is back at Descanso Gardens with a wonderland of brightly lit jack-o-lanterns, giant hand-carved gourds and pumpkins, artistic light installations, seasonal food and decor, plus immersive displays along pathways.

This year Descanso Railroad is specially illuminated for Carved, and new friendly ghosts join the family of wood spirits carved from five enormous logs by Chainsaw Jenna.

Visitors can watch creative carvers such as Arthur Romeo hand-carved giant pumpkins into some of your favorite sport teams, actors and television show.

Walk under basket lights to the rose garden and be sure to check out the stunning “Rhizome” installation by Tom and Lien Dekyvere.

• Farmhouse Market Salad made withpink lady apples, candied pecans, gorgonzola, shaved fennel, dried cranberries, meyer lemon vinaigrette

• Seafood Pasta with a cioppino broth, pernod, shaved fennel, shrimp, mussels, halibut, fennel,

• Seared Salmon in a coconut vadouvan broth, butternut squash puree, mizuna, pomegranate, persimmons

• Grilled Pork Tenderloin sausage bread pudding, braised red cabbage, quince, apple compote, roasted apple, dandelion greens, fried sage, applejack brandy sauce

Featured fall cocktails:

• Drunken pumpkin made with bourbon, pumpkin, lemon, cinnamon

• Black lagoon made with rum, pineapple, lime, activated charcoal

Carved is a rain-or-shine event. Tickets are non-refundable, have timed entry, and must be purchased in advance.
