The outaged cut electricity Wednesday afternoon to a portion of downtown Los Angeles, including the convention center.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A construction mishap caused a power outage that cut electricity Wednesday afternoon to a portion of downtown Los Angeles, including the Convention Center.

The outage, "caused by a construction incident in the area by a non- LADWP affiliated contractor," began between 1:30 and 2 p.m., according to a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power spokeswoman.

About 30 DWP customers, including the Los Angeles Convention Center at 1201 S. Figueroa St., lost power. Some of the customers could include other large facilities such as hotels, but no specifics were available, DWP spokeswoman Jessica Johnson said.
