📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:

1) The fallout from the L.A. City Council scandal continues. On Tuesday, Nury Martinez, who left her position as council president, took a leave of absence. Gil Cedillo and Kevin de León did not leave their positions. Karen Bass and Rick Caruso, both of whom are running for L.A. Mayor, are joining the chorus of those asking the three to resign. Tuesday’s scheduled council meeting was attended by huge crowds demonstrating and asking for the removal of the three. (The Guardian, Konstantine in CA)

2) In 2021, a red pickup sideswiped a retired police lieutenant who was riding his bike in Agoura. It turned into a hit-and-run. The driver, who was charged with a felony, made “a deal that drops the charge to a misdemeanor.” At first, the driver was supposed to have “pled out to the felony, served felony probation, did community service, and paid restitution.” Now, he’ll be “pleading guilty to a misdemeanor.” The victim intends to be at the hearing and hopes the judge will reject the plea. (ABC)

3) A homeless man keeps breaking into the Baja Cantina at 311 Washington Boulevard in Venice. His latest break-in happened on Sunday, when he lowered himself through a skylight and drank the restaurant’s alcohol until he passed out. The restaurant’s manager said he “saw the man the previous night screaming and wandering in the middle of an intersection without pants on” and also that the same man broke in a week earlier. (Fox)

4) L.A.’s favorite mountain lion, P-22, is in the news again. We learned on Tuesday that he spent Saturday night in Los Feliz, in a resident’s driveway, barring them from entering. However, he eventually got up and left, which meant that the homeowners did not have to spend a night in a hotel. (The Guardian)

5) The New Japan Showdown is coming to The Vermont on Sunday. Be there at 4 p.m. because the bell rings promptly one hour later to get the pro-wrestling matches started. Matches will feature, among others, Jay White, Juice Robinson, David Finlay, Tom Lawlor, and Fred Rosser. (Vermont Hollywood)

  • "What's now known as Fern Dell, in Griffith Park, was once land inhabited by the Gabrieliño-Tongva tribe. The villages relied on the natural springs in the area, and the protection of the shade trees." (Los Angeles Conservancy via Facebook)
