🎃 Halloween Poll!
Will you celebrate Halloween this year? Tell us your plans! So far, 52.5% are turning off their porch lights, 35.6% will hand out candy, 3.4% are attending a party, and another 8.5% will accompany children to go trick-or-treating.
📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:
1) A 20-year-old dirt bike rider was killed on Sunday afternoon in Hyde Park. A dark-colored sedan driving on 54th Street reportedly made an unsafe turn, which caused the dirt bike rider to hit the back of the vehicle and land on the pavement. The sedan fled the scene of the accident. “Up to $50,000 is available for anyone who can provide information leading to the driver of the sedan.” (KTLA)
2) On Monday morning, a hazardous materials investigation got underway at 1676 West Oakhorne Drive. This address is along the freight railroad tracks. The reason is an “apparent rupture of (a) subterranean pipeline,” but it might have also been a relief valve activation. The substance that could have escaped is not identified, but the gas company has been seen on the site. (LAFD, 2)
3) Franklin High School was briefly locked down Monday morning. Vandals had splattered fake blood along hallways and written, in fake blood, “Keep the Kids Safe.” The search for the person or persons responsible is ongoing. “To date, in 2022, 227 mass shootings at school campuses have been reported.” (L.A. Taco)
4) KCRW and Gustavo’s Great Tortilla Tournament put out the word that they would crown the winner of their Golden Tortilla contest. The final showdown took place at Smorgasburg Los Angeles. On Monday, we learned that La Princesita won and took home the Golden Tortilla and the Chiquihuite Cup. (KCRW)
5) Mark your calendars! The GRAMMY Museum will welcome musician and author Andy Cahan on November 9 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. He will sign his latest book, The Most Famous Musician You’ve Never Heard Of. It is “a copiously illustrated memoir that doubles as a virtual history of the American rock music scene from the 1960s to the present day.” (Universe)
