Earthquake Rattles The Oscars — Did You Feel It?

The shaking was felt across Los Angeles County as the Academy Awards wrapped up Sunday night.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA — On Hollywood's biggest night of the year, a magnitude 3.9 earthquake struck just northeast of the Academy Awards Sunday.

The quake rattled the Oscars at 10:13 p.m. Sunday. It had an epicenter 1.4 miles southeast of North Hollywood. Light shaking was felt across Los Angeles County from Ventura County south to Orange County, according to the U.S. Geologocal Survey. The earthquake was about 9 miles deep.

"Too small to definitively assign to any fault, but the closest is the Hollywood fault," seismologist Lucy Jones wrote on Bluesky. "Yawn. Nothing much to say about an earthquake in earthquake country."
