⏰ Daylight Saving Time Poll! 🤔
Daylight saving time begins on March 12. According to history, we can thank entomologist George Hudson for coming up with the idea in 1895. Implementation took place in 1918 to save resources and extend the work day during wartime. In 1966, daylight saving time became the law of the land, but states could opt out. So far, only Hawaii and Arizona have done so. Now, dueling studies point to the successes and failures of the practice. Where do you stand on the issue? So far, 61.4% don’t like daylight saving time, while 38.6% do.
📰 Here are the top stories today in Los Angeles:
- The CW Network planned to film parts of an “All American” episode in downtown L.A. on Friday, when a nearby shooting shut down production. Reportedly, a 34-year-old suspect approached a 48-year-old victim and shot him in the alley near the 5800 block of South Vermont Avenue just after 9 a.m. Film “crew members did not feel safe to continue following the incident.” (Deadline)
- A crime spree interrupted Highland Park on Saturday. The man is a suspect in an early morning shooting “on a Metro Gold Line train near the Southwest Museum station, located at 4600 Marmion Way.” Next, he is alleged to be a suspect in attempted carjackings on Figueroa Street close to the Metro station. When that failed, he reportedly shot at the cars. He’s in custody now. (KTLA)
- The building housing the Chase Bank at 15249 West Victory Boulevard caught on fire early Saturday morning. It started as a fire on the building’s outside that reached one interior space. However, after half an hour, firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) noticed the flames’ advancement into the attic. They called in additional support. After more than 40 minutes, a total of 66 firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze. The bank wasn’t open, nobody was in the building, and no reported injuries occurred. Arson investigators haven’t said yet what caused the fire. (LAFD)
- Are you hip to the Hot Girl Walks that take place all around the area? Because safety in numbers is a thing when you’re a woman walking the L.A. trails at any time of day, or exploring neighborhoods you’ve never been to, several groups now meet up for these outings. The next one is on February 11 at the Hollywood reservoir. (NBC, Hot Girl Walk LA)
- The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) would like you to be aware of two saturation patrols today, Sunday. One will run from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m. somewhere in the Southwest area. The other one will start at 5 p.m. and run to 1 a.m. in the Foothills. And, before you message me, the LAPD advertises these DUI checkpoints “to deter people from getting behind the wheel under in the influence of drugs or alcohol.” (Patch)
