Sighting Of Rifleman Aiming At Cars Shuts Down LA County Freeway, 2 Arrested: Report

Two people were arrested following the report of a gunman pointing a rifle at passing cars on the freeway.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A man was arrested Monday morning following a report of a person pointing a gun at vehicles on the 105 Freeway, resulting in the freeway's closure.

Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Transit Services Bureau were dispatched at around 9:10 a.m. to the 105 overpass at Vermont Avenue, where a passerby reported to the California Highway Patrol that they had spotted a male wearing tan clothing pointing what appeared to be a long gun at motorists, according to the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

The California Highway Patrol closed all freeway lanes at the sheriff's department's request. Some surrounding streets were also closed.

KTLA aired helicopter footage from the scene, which showed authorities giving the man a large amount of space.

Authorities detained a man matching the description, according to the Sheriff's Department.

ABC 7 reported that a total of two people were arrested, and the incident was centered around the Vermont/Athens C Line Metro station, which runs in the center of the 105 Freeway.

The station reported that callers reported a man who was armed at the station.

It was unclear if the detained person actually had a rifle or some other object, a sheriff's deputy at the information bureau said.

The freeway was reopened at around 9:50 a.m.
