"Back to the Future," now playing at The Pantages, brings the beloved 1985 film to the stage with spectacular effects, a likeable cast, and a new score. Directed by John Rando, the musical plays very close to the movie with the story of Marty McFly and Doc Brown's time-traveling adventures. Caden Brauch (as Marty) and Don Stephenson take on the two leads, with amusing but mediocre performances.

There are two stars in this production, Burke Swanson who brings all the nerdiness to George McFly, Marty’s father who needs some coaching to win over Lorraine (Zan Berube), Marty’s mother; and the show-stopping DeLorean amidst the high-tech set design by Tim Hatley. The stage is housed within large LED screens that bring each scene to life and the infamous ‘80s sportscar offers special effects, pyrotechnics, fire, and immersive lighting.

The show features 18 original songs by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard alongside the Huey Lewis hit "The Power of Love," and Chuck Berry’s “Jonny B. Goode.” Many of the songs are forgettable and the best performances come from supporting characters, such as “Gotta Start Somewhere,” by mayor Goldie Wilson (Cartreze Tucker).
