Hermosa Beach Man Found Dead After 6-Hour Standoff: Reports

It began with a domestic violence disturbance, and was found after an explosion and a fire broke out at his home, CBS reported.

HERMOSA BEACH, CA — A man who barricaded himself in his Hermosa Beach home in an hours-long standoff with police after a domestic violence disturbance was found dead on Christmas Eve, ABC 7 reported.

Officers were called to his 11th Street home for a family disturbance involving a woman screaming at around 3:20 p.m. on Sunday, according to the outlet.

The man, who was not identified, verbally threatened the woman several times, and she left the home with her two children, then told officers the man had been violent, the outlet reported.

During the stand-off, at about 4:30 p.m., there was an explosion in the garage that sparked a fire, and it quickly spread to the home, CBS reported.

When officers and a sheriff's SWAT team went inside the house at about 9:30 p.m., the man was found dead inside the garage, allowing the house to be cleared, and firefighters were able to extinguish the rest of the flames, police told the outlet.

The family's dog was rescued during the operation and then reunited with them, the outlet reported.
