📰 Here are the top stories today in Los Angeles:

  1. Early Saturday morning, a fight between two groups of people turned into a mass stabbing. The conflict occurred near 7th Street and Broadway. Reportedly, a 28-year-old suspect stabbed six men between the ages of 20 and 30. Authorities took him into custody and said that “the stabbing was not believed to be gang-related.” (Patch)
  2. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) headed to the area around 1671 West Michael Lane for a hiker rescue on Saturday. They encountered a 65-year-old man on a remote hiking trail. He wasn’t injured, but the terrain’s setup prevented him leaving the location, keeping him stranded. Once again, LAFD Air Operations came to the rescue and lifted him to a safe spot where first responders could ensure his well-being. (LAFD)
  3. Are short-term rentals and homelessness connected? Friday’s report makes the connection that standard apartments are now becoming “illegal short-term rentals and Airbnb units.” Critics, such as the Better Neighbors Los Angeles coalition, say that these types of rentals push regular tenants out. While L.A. passed a home-sharing ordinance in 2020, enforcement reportedly declined, resulting in higher rents, evictions and apartment conversions. (LAMag)
  4. If you live in Little Tokyo, Boyle Heights or East L.A. and are a senior resident over the age of 65, you might want to know about the Little Tokyo Nutrition Services. The lion’s share of the program’s funding comes from the Los Angeles Department of Aging. Despite specializing in dishes with cultural appeal to the neighborhood’s Nikkei population, anyone living in the service area can sign up for the service. (Rafu)
  5. Today’s the California Bridal & Wedding Expo, y’all! If you’re behind in your planning or just need a place to start, head to the Convention Center. Find “the perfect gown, reception venue, invitations, photographer, music, and menu.” It’ll be in West Hall B from noon to 5 p.m. (LA Convention Center)
