⏰ Daylight Saving Time Poll! 🤔
Daylight saving time begins on March 12. According to history, we can thank entomologist George Hudson for coming up with the idea in 1895. Implementation took place in 1918 to save resources and extend the work day during wartime. In 1966, daylight saving time became the law of the land, but states could opt out. So far, only Hawaii and Arizona have done so. Now, dueling studies point to the successes and failures of the practice. Where do you stand on the issue? So far, 66% don’t like daylight saving time, while 33.5% do. Only 0.5% don’t care one way or the other.
📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:
- Mayor Karen Bass continues her cleanup of homeless encampments. On Monday, L.A. Sanitation Department crews targeted Skid Row at 5th and San Pedro streets, which caused angry reactions from activists. Los Angeles Police Department officers were on hand to protect crew members during the cleanup and defuse any protests or altercations. (ABC)
- Los Angeles City Council President Krekorian participated in last week’s ceremonial groundbreaking of add-ons to the Chandler bike way. Look for two mini parks on Chandler at Satsuma and Cartwright avenues. We’ll get to enjoy “new exercise equipment, enhanced accessibility, fencing, signage, trees, lighting, and rainwater drainage features.” A completion date is summer or fall this year. (Streets Blog LA)
- The Hop Woo BBQ & Seafood Restaurant at 845 North Broadway is famous for whole roast suckling pigs and an extensive vegetarian menu. On Tuesday, we learned that the small business received a $13,000 (!) gas bill for the month of January. If you want to show some love to the restaurateurs, make a reservation and bring your friends to eat here. (L.A. Taco)
- We’re number 9! This time, experts gauged the cities where inflation is rising the most. They created 23 bundles of metropolitan areas. Los Angeles is bundled with Long Beach and Anaheim. We are number 9 of 23, with a consumer price index change of 1.30% from the latest month to the time two months ago. In first place, as having inflation that's rising the most, is the Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater bundle in Florida. In last place is Anchorage. (WalletHub)
- Are you hip to Pan Estilo Copala? Run by a couple of panaderos out of a garage, it's the hot tip for all things pan dulce, conchas comaltecas and pan de huevo. It’s been Compton’s best-kept secret for about six years, but on Valentine’s Day it caught the attention of the insiders. Now, you, too, can head to 14423 South Castlegate Avenue between Tuesday and Saturday to find out what the buzz is all about! (LA Eater)
