ENCINO, CA — Police arrested a man on suspicion of shooting his wife to death in the street in a quiet Encino neighborhood Wednesday.

Authorities responded to a report of shots fired Tuesday night just before 7:30 p.m. in the 510 block of Hesperia Avenue. There, officers found a 54-year-old woman who had been shot several times. She was lying in the street, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her husband attempted to run away from responding officers, but was apprehended by the Los Angeles Police Department, NBC reported. Police did not release the name of the suspect, a 64-year-old man who did not live at the location.
