Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Recovering From Hip Surgery
Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was recovering Sunday following surgery at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center for a fractured hip.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Lakers "Showtime-era" legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was recovering Sunday following surgery at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center for a fractured hip.
Deborah Morales, Abdul-Jabbar's business partner, declined to provide further details and instead directed reporters to the initial statement on the NBA Hall of Famer's account on X, formerly Twitter.
"Last night [Friday] while attending a concert, Kareem had an accidental fall and broke his hip," according to the statement. "He will have surgery [Saturday].We are all deeply appreciative of all the support for Kareem, especially from the Los Angeles Fire Department who assisted Kareem on site and the amazing medical team and doctors at UCLA Hospital who are taking great care of Kareem now."

It was unclear where or when Abdul-Jabbar's fall occurred, but it was the basketball icon's latest health battle.
He was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia in 2008 and prostate cancer in 2020. In 2015, Abdul-Jabbar underwent quadruple coronary bypass surgery, also at UCLA Medical Center.

The 76-year-old is the NBA's second all-time leading scorer and a six- time league MVP.
During his 20-season professional career, Abdul-Jabbar led the Lakers to five NBA championships and later won another with the Milwaukee Bucks. Prior to that, he led UCLA to three straight NCAA titles.
