LA Man Arrested In Connection With $1.4M In Stolen Train Cargo

The stolen cargo included Nike shoes, Milwaukee tools and electronic equipment, authorities said.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A 41-year-old man was arrested after police allegedly uncovered more than $1.4 million worth of stolen train cargo during a search of a Los Angeles home, authorities said Thursday.

On Monday, detectives served a search warrant at a home in the 4300 block of Verona Street, southeast of Boyle Heights, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

During the search, police recovered stolen goods including Nike shoes, Milwaukee tools and electronic equipment.

The suspect, identified as LA resident Alejandro Aguilar-Espinoza, was taken into custody on suspicion of receiving stolen property, police said.

Authorities said the search stemmed from a report that stolen cargo was being stored at his home.

The investigation was a joint effort involving the LAPD, Union Pacific Railroad Police, Los Angeles Port Police, Los Angeles World Airports Police and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

“This investigation underscores the importance of interagency collaboration in combating large-scale cargo theft and preserving the integrity of Southern California’s commercial supply chains,” the LAPD said in a statement.

Police did not release information about when or where the stolen merchandise was originally taken.
