LAPD Officer Hurt In Explosion, Triggering Hours-Long Standoff
Officers were inside an apartment responding to a trespassing call when the explosion occurred.
LOS ANGELES, CA — At least one police officer was injured in an explosion inside a Pershing Square apartment that led to a standoff Thursday morning.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers were responding Wednesday night to a trespassing call inside an apartment in the 400 block of Sixth Street between when the explosion occurred. The suspect then barricaded himself in the apartment and remained there for hours as the SWAT Team responded, according to the LAPD.
The surrounding area was evacuated, and eventually the suspect surrendered to police.

The area remained affected Thursday as the LAPD Special Weapons and Tactics Team and Bomb Squad worked to clear the area.
It wasn't immediately clear what caused the explosion.
