🤔 Aggressive Urban Coyotes or Regular L.A. County Wildlife? Poll!

We live with raccoons and opossums. Do coyotes fall into the same category? They don’t need open space, have no problems building dens close to humans, and are becoming more and more visible on our neighborhood streets. What do you think? So far, 60.7% think we need to learn to live with them, 37.6% want them gone, and 1.7% don’t care one way or the other.

📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:

1) LAUSD Cyberattack Update: The hackers behind the ransomware attack still haven’t seen money, and they’re tightening the screws. They announced Friday that they will “release some of the hacked data online” unless their demands are met. “The district did not disclose whether it knows what data may be released or when.” (CNN)

2) Amtrak and Metrolink announced on Friday a suspension of “train services linking San Diego to Los Angeles” because coastal tracks had shifted. On Monday, OCTA, which is in charge of the tracks, will meet to talk about solutions. “The emergency plan will likely involve driving large ground anchors into the bottom of the slope next to the track to prevent movement.” Until the movement is halted, the service is suspended. (The Guardian)

3) Six LAUSD schools earned an A+ in ratings released last Tuesday. They are The Science Academy STEM Magnet, which is rated 44th overall in CA, the Harbor Teacher Preparation Academy, rated 57th overall, the Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies, ranked 71st, the Downtown Magnets High School, which is in 106th place in CA, the Girls Academic Leadership Academy, rated 110th, and the North Hollywood Senior High School, which is 166th in the state. (Niche)

4) There was a rally protesting the death of Mahsa Amini in Iran. People calling for a change in that country met Saturday morning at Pershing Square and marched to City Hall. “Attendees said they’re rallying for more freedoms for women and all Iranians.” (KTLA)

5) Mark your calendars! If you have a visually-impaired youngster, L.A. is offering “blind soccer clinics” starting October 8. The City teamed up with the U.S. Association of Blind Athletes to bring these FREE events to the Algin Sutton Recreation Center. “Blind soccer is generally played much like sighted soccer, aside from a few key distinctions. The ball makes noise as it moves, all outfield players must wear blindfolds, and players are supposed to verbally indicate when they are making a play for the ball. A sighted guide also assists outside the field of play to help direct players.” (Angels on Parade)
