LAX Website Shutdown By Computer System 'Anomalies'

It wasn't immediately clear what crashed the computer system for one of the world's busiest airports during the holiday travel season.

LOS ANGELES, CA — "Anomalies" affecting the computer networks at Los Angeles airports Thursday are under investigation, Los Angeles World Airport authorities announced.

The websites for Los Angeles International airport and Van Nuys Airport were knocked out of service, but the issue did not affect flights, officials said.

It was unclear if the anomalies, affecting one of the world's busiest airports during the holiday season, are linked to a cyberattacks.

Airport officials issued a statement, warning travelers to check with their airline before heading to the airport.

"Los Angeles World Airports detected anomalies in our communication network earlier this morning. We have taken precautionary steps to isolate our systems while we assess the situation. The airport is operating at full capacity and there are minimal impacts on airport operations. As always, we recommend that guests check with their airline for information before heading to the airport.

There were dozens of flight delays and three flight cancelations at LAX, Thursday morning, according to FlightAware flight tracker. It wasn't clear if the delays are linked to the computer system anomalies.

It was unknown how many of the airport's internal systems were impacted.

Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration did not immediately respond to a request for comment. But the issue did not appear to be causing any major issues with flight operations.
