At Least 1 Shot In Freeway Shooting In Los Angeles County

At least one person was shot in what police suspect was a road rage attack that shut down an LA County freeway for hours.

EAST LOS ANGELES, CA — A car-to-car shooting wounded at least one person and shut down the Long Beach (710) Freeway and Golden State (5) Freeway transition Wednesday in East Los Angeles in what police suspect was a case of road rage.

Authorities learned of the shooting when the gunshot victim drove to Los Angeles Community Hospital on Olympic Boulevard.

The shooting shut down all lanes of the southbound 710 at Third Street for over four hours. The lanes have since been reopened and the California Highway Patrol's SigAlert lifted.

No arrests have been made, and police have not released a description of the suspect nor the car the shooter was traveling in.

CHP officers were called at around 12:12 a.m. to the southbound 710 and the junction with the southbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway where someone from another vehicle shot at a Toyota Prius, wounding at least one of the Prius' occupants, CHP Officer Sean Lough told City News Service.

NBC 4 showed footage of the Prius with at least three bullet holes.

It was not immediately known if the passenger or the driver of the Prius had been shot. KTLA reported that the driver and passenger, the driver's brother, were both struck by gunfire.

Both patients were in stable condition, KTLA reported.

The CHP is asking other drivers who may have witnessed the shooting or a road rage exchange leading up to it, to come forward.
