📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:
- Three smash-and-grab robberies took place in the early morning hours on Tuesday. Reportedly, the same group of three men in a white SUV was involved. Locations were the 5800 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, the 3800 block of 6th Street, and the 5100 block of Melrose Avenue. (KTLA)
- On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) conducted a successful swift water rescue in the Pacoima Wash flood control channel. The victim, identified as an unhoused 23-year-old man, was first spotted near the 10900 block of Haddon Avenue. Rescuers got him out of the water near the 10700 block of North Laurel Canyon Boulevard. "We're grateful for the witnesses who promptly called 9-1-1 and did not attempt to perform a spontaneous rescue, which could have led to multiple victims and the loss of lives,” officials said. The young man was taken to the hospital for “treatment of hypothermia and abrasions to his hands.” (Patch, LBFD)
- On Sunday, the Dolby Theatre will once again host the Academy Awards. For drivers, it’s going to be a “s*%#show” and road closures have already begun. For example, on Friday, Hawthorn Avenue will be closed from Highland Avenue to Orange Drive. Sidewalks close. Areas around Orchid Alley and Orchid Street are also on the closure list. Staggered closures will be in effect until Monday. (LAist)
- Little Dynamite will begin making pizza at 11736 Washington Place in Mar Vista this weekend. It’s brought to you by the folks who created the pan pizza favorite at Bootleg Pizza, a business venture that’s now caught up in litigation. Over time, the owners will add “Bootleg Pizza special pies, salads, and garlic knots,” but right now the focus is all on the pizzas. (LA Eater)
- Awe Inspired has a store at 8446 Melrose Avenue! Targeting Millennials and Gen Zers, the brand combines “a line of bracelets, pendants, rings, earrings and other items representing female strength and empowerment” with wellness practices like full moon ceremonies and sound baths. The average piece retails for $150 and Taylor Swift, as well as Billy Eilish, are already customers. (yahoo!news)
