Los Angeles Family Fundraises For Pit Bull Shot By Intruder

Sammy the pit bull underwent a $12,000 surgery after being shot Sept. 2.

LOS ANGELES, CA -- A Los Angeles family was fundraising Monday to help pay for the surgery of their pit bull that was shot by an intruder earlier this month. The Ho family wrote on the fundraising website that pit bull Sammy was shot at 2 a.m. Sept. 2 when an intruder attempted to enter their home.

Lin Ho wrote her brother and father found their beloved dog had been shot in the back.

"The reality set in when they noticed there was a hole in Sammy’s back and that he had been shot!!" the GoFundMe page said. "Sammy was rushed to the emergency vet. The bullet shattered and broke his femur!"

Ho wrote that a veterinarian asked her father if Sammy should be euthanized but he "was quick to respond and said, 'NO WAY! He saved my life, I have to save his life!'"

Two days following the shooting, Sammy underwent a costly $12,000 surgery to save his life. The dog is expected to recover in two months, but the memory of what happened still hurts the family, Ho wrote.
