Man Fatally Shot by San Gabriel Cops In Traffic Stop Identified

An investigation into the shooting is being conducted by sheriff's homicide detectives and local police.

SAN GABRIEL, CA — A motorist who was fatally shot by San Gabriel police officers when he allegedly "produced a handgun" during a traffic stop over the weekend was identified on Monday.

The shooting occurred about 11:20 p.m. Saturday in the 1800 block of San Gabriel Boulevard, according to Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

David Alvarado Jr., 38, of La Crescenta, died at the scene, according to the coroner's office.

"During the traffic stop, the driver produced a handgun and an officer-involved shooting occurred," Koerner said.

No officers or others were injured. Sheriff's homicide detectives were assisting San Gabriel police with the investigation, Koerner said.
