Man Killed After SUV Goes Off 10 Freeway
A man was killed Saturday when an SUV went off the 10 Freeway and struck a tree in the Pico-Union community of Los Angeles.
LOS ANGELES, CA — A man was killed Saturday when an SUV went off the Santa Monica (10) Freeway and struck a tree in the Pico-Union community of Los Angeles.
The crash occurred at 5:05 a.m. Saturday on the westbound Santa Monica Freeway east of Hoover Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Juan Ortiz, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Medical Examiner's office.

Ortiz was the sole passenger in the Toyota 4Runner, the CHP reported. The 27-year-old driver was hospitalized with major injuries.
A Sigalert issued at 5:48 a.m., closing the freeway conversion road connecting the southbound Harbor (110) Freeway to the westbound 10 Freeway, was canceled at 8:18 a.m., the CHP reported.
