SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — We've rounded up the stories you may have missed over the holiday weekend to prepare you for the week ahead.
The big news gripping the Southland was a plane collision over Lancaster, which left one pilot dead. The two planes were a Yakoklev Yak-52, a vintage Soviet-era aircraft, and the Nanchang CJ-6A, a decades-old Chinese plane. The cause of the collision is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board.
In other news, a person and a horse were killed on I-15 in Riverside County. Witnesses reported seeing several horses run down both lanes of the freeway before one was fatally struck.

In statewide news, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a bill that will ban all plastic bags from grocery stores starting Jan. 1, 2026. Currently, stores are allowed to sell plastic bags that are “reusable or recyclable.”
