🤔 Aggressive Urban Coyotes or Regular L.A. County Wildlife? Poll!

We live with raccoons and opossums. Do coyotes fall into the same category? They don’t need open space, have no problems building dens close to humans, and are becoming more and more visible on our neighborhood streets. What do you think? So far, 61.9% think we need to learn to live with them, 34.9% want them gone, and 3.2% don’t care one way or the other.

📰 Here are the top stories today in Los Angeles:

1) Sunday night, there was a shooting in the 1000 block of Homer Street. Two men were shot to death, and authorities say it “may have been gang-related.” The victims were 25 and 30 years old. If you have any information, please call 877-LAPD-247. (The Eastsider LA)

2) The LAPD is looking for more ways to attract recruits. We learned on Monday that the Department is going ahead with Housing for Hires, a pilot program “to incentivize new recruits by subsidizing a portion of their housing costs” for 24 months, which takes a newcomer to the force through “the force’s probation period while personnel undergo training in the police academy and part of the first year of employment.” At this time, 11 recruits benefit from the program. (L.A. Business Journal)

3) Studio City is a getting a Ramen King Keisuke! We learned on Sunday that the Singapore ramen chain already opened a location in Monterey Park, and will open another 13 eateries around L.A. County. One of them will be in Studio City. (What Now Los Angeles)

4) If you know a teen who applied to go to the University of California but was denied admission, all is not lost. We learned on Friday that the school has to comply with a budget line item, which means that it needs a “dual admissions program that will launch in fall 2023.” Applying students must “graduate from high school with at least a 3.0 grade point average but without all the required A-G courses.” It is interesting to note that UCLA is not part of the pilot program. (LAist)

5) Mark your calendars! The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) announced on Monday that it will run its E3 games expo from June 13 to 16, 2023 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Official gamer days are the 15th and 16th. The 13th and 14th are primarily for industry insiders and reporters. (Kotaku)

📓 From my notebook:

  • Our Los Feliz Hills neighbor says the pot shop's proposed location is across the street from Lassen's and only 357 feet away from The Reckless Unicorn toy store. This pot shop location does not reflect our health-minded, young family neighborhood demographic. (Nextdoor)
  • A neighbor in the Culver West area wants to know if anyone can recommend a good body shop? (Nextdoor)
  • Our Carthay Circle neighbor says, Shana Tova. For Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, my family and I wish you all, whatever your beliefs, a good year, a sweet year, and may you be inscribed in the Book of Life for the coming year. (Nextdoor)
  • A hungry Silver Lake Bellevue neighbor needs suggestions for an outstanding slice of pumpkin pie.🥧(Nextdoor)
  • A Toluca Lake area neighbor is ISO someone to do a true deep cleaning of their kitchen/bathroom and possibly other parts of the apartment also. (Nextdoor)
