📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:
- On Tuesday, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to a fire at 3714 West Oakwood Avenue, just about 200 feet down the street from Fire Station 6. A vacant one-story home was in flames. Some 34 firefighters battled for 27 minutes to extinguish the blaze and prevent its spread. We don’t know yet what caused the fire. (LAFD)
- Remember the massive sinkhole that opened up at 11414 Iverson Road in early January? Well, we have a couple more. They are “in the #4 lane near Spring Street” on the northbound 101 and in the 1200 block of Elden Avenue. Neighbors say that this sinkhole developed from a small pothole. (Patch)
- Speaking of traffic challenges, which intersections are the most dangerous in the city? Interestingly, they’re all in South Central L.A. If you want to avoid them, stay away from South Vermont Avenue & West Florence Avenue, West Manchester Avenue & South Normandie Avenue, West Manchester Avenue & South Vermont Avenue, East Manchester Avenue & Avalon Boulevard, and Victory Boulevard & Lindley Avenue. (KTLA)
- Once again, the folks crunching the numbers are making some comparisons. This time, they sussed out the best (and worst) cities at money management. We’re number 51 of 2,500. Researchers looked at the median credit score (Saratoga does best in California) and credit card debt when compared to income (Cupertino does best in the state). In fact, Cupertino comes in first overall among small cities, and San Francisco among large ones! The mid-size city top score goes to Sunnyvale, another California city. (WalletHub)
- Secret Headquarters, the insider who defines insiders in comic book culture, is coming to 3137 Glendale Boulevard. The venue used to house A Place to Create. You may remember that the comic book store ran afoul of rent hikes and ADA compliance issues. We look for an opening date sometime in April or May. “I have a feeling it’s going to be a great mix of our current customers and a whole brand-new crew of people, too,” the store’s co-owner said.
