📰 Here are the top stories today in Los Angeles:
1) On Monday, the police were called to the 2400 block of East 8th Street, which is close to the 6th Street Bridge and south of the Arts District. There was a report of a “suspicious item.” The bomb squad also responded. About three hours later, the “police said no explosive devices were discovered, and the scene was being cleared.” (CBS)
2) A woman sleeping in a pile of cardboard in the Echo Park Vons parking lot at Alvarado Boulevard and Montana Avenue was killed Monday night. A big rig ran over the cardboard and the woman, who is believed to have been in her 30s. “Authorities said drugs and/or alcohol are not being considered factors in this crash, and the truck driver is cooperating with the investigation.” (Fox, CBS)
3) LAUSD Hack Update: In somewhat of a reversal, Superintendent Alberto Carvalho said on Monday that the hackers “mostly failed to obtain and release sensitive data about students, parents and staff in the district.” He denied the release of “truly sensitive, confidential information.” Even so, he did concede that “there are some outlier cases of sensitive disclosures.” (EdSource)
4) U2’s Bono is going on a "Stories of Surrender" book tour. Having written and illustrated his autobiography, Surrender, on November 13 his book tour comes to the Orpheum Theatre at 8 p.m. When you buy your tickets, they include a copy of the book. (LA Orpheum)
5) Mark your calendars! The Los Angeles Auto Show will take place at the Convention Center from November 18 to 27. Organizers confirmed on Tuesday that the show will feature displays from “Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Charge Cars, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, ElectraMeccanica, Fiat, Ford, Genesis, GMC, Honda, Hummer, Hyundai, INDI EV, Jaguar, Jeep, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Mazda, Nissan, Porsche, Ram, Subaru, Supernal (Advanced Air Mobility), Toyota, VinFast, Volkswagen, and Volvo.” In addition to the displays, there will be “test-drives and ride along opportunities.” (PR Newswire)
