📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:
- On Monday, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) performed another hiker rescue. This time, firefighters connected with an adult male near 20607 Hillside Drive. He’d been riding his dirt bike when he had an accident that resulted in a shoulder injury. Unable to reach medical help on his own, he called for help a little before 4 p.m. LAFD Air Ops hoisted him to safety and took him to the hospital. (LAFD)
- On Tuesday, El Camino Real Charter High School at 5440 Valley Circle Boulevard went on lockdown. Someone reported the presence of a shooter on campus around 9 a.m. Staff and students did what they consistently practice: push “a bunch of desks up against the door.” The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) investigated, but couldn’t find any shooter. The lockdown ended, but things aren’t back to normal for kids and parents who were terrified. (Fox)
- On the same day, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) sent its Arson and Explosives Detail to the corner of North Spring and West Temple streets. Someone reported a package in front of the Hall of Justice. After evacuating the building and closing streets, bomb technicians inched closer to “what appeared to be a black device on a bus bench with wires protruding from it.” Long story short, they found a party light like a DJ might use. (LASD)
- Circle February 28, because IHOP will celebrate National Pancake Day! Participating restaurants will hand out “a free Short Stack of its world-famous Buttermilk Pancakes” for dine-in orders. The offer is good from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you’re not sure that your favorite location participates, give them a call. (Business Wire)
- Irv’s Burgers at 7998 Santa Monica Boulevard is expanding! The new location will be at 1000 South La Brea Avenue, which previously was the Top Round. The anticipated opening date will be March 3. (L.A. Eater)
