😋 Fair Food Poll!
Fair food is the ultimate cheat meal. Although we all know it’s unhealthy, everyone has a guilty pleasure. Which is your favorite?

  • 25.8% Funnel cake
  • 24.2% Candy apples
  • 19.6% Corndogs
  • 4.8% Guacamole
  • 3.2% Cotton candy, Cheesecake, Tri-Tip sandwiches, Turkey legs
  • 1.6% Guacamole with cheese, Pork chop on a stick. Deep-fried bacon-wrapped pickle, Cinnamon rolls, Spicy sausage link on a French roll, Fried cheese curds, Deep-fried butter

The rest have the willpower to stay away from fair food.

📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:

  1. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to a four-story apartment building fire at 9010 North Tobias Avenue in Panorama City on Monday morning. Because residents had possible injuries, paramedic firefighters assessed patients while the fight against the blaze was on. After about half an hour, it was clear the fire consumed at least five units. Another five were damaged, displacing 16 residents from 10 units. The American Red Cross is assisting residents. Eleven patients underwent medical evaluations, and five were taken to hospitals; one was in serious, and four were in fair-to-moderate condition. We do not yet know what caused the blaze. (LAFD)
  2. The crime rate in 2022 was the highest since 2010. However, some neighborhoods are significantly safer than others. As of Monday, downtown L.A. is the most dangerous place to be, with 372 crimes per 1,000 people. Other sections that are not as dangerous but still iffy include Westchester, Broadway-Manchester, Elysian Park, Hollywood, Fairfax, Century City, Baldwin-Hills Crenshaw, Vermont Square, and Vermont-Slauson. Where are the safest areas? El Sereno, Mount Washington, Glassell Park, Eagle Rock, Highland Park, Montecito Heights, Cypress Park, Mar Vista, Cheviot Hills, Westwood, Beverly Crest, Bel Air, Pacific Palisades, West Hills, Winetka, Arleta, Porter Ranch, Granada Hills, Sylmar, Lake View Terrace and Tujunga. (USA Today)
  3. Nine acres at 7833 South Vermont Avenue are for sale. The catch? It doesn’t have a price tag. The owner, a church, noted it “will meet the market.” Zoning allows “high-density residential and commercial use,” which makes it interesting to developers and investors. Nearby South Broadway parcels of land have sold and are intended for apartments and “workforce housing.” (The Real Deal/paywall)
  4. Don’t mess with the memory of Elliott Smith. Sugared + Bronzed took over the Floyd's Barbershop location at Sunset Boulevard and Parkman Avenue. It had a mural of Smith painted on the side, but the new tenant decided to paint over it. Reaction from the community was swift and uncompromising. To regain the residents’ good graces, the Silver Lake business “hired a female artist to paint a new mural that honors both Silver Lake and Elliott Smith.” (The Eastsider LA)
  5. You know the Beastie Boys, but are you hip to the Yeastie Boys? Yeastie Boys Bagels and Taco Bell are collaborating to create “bagel-seasoned breakfast quesadillas, a breakfast Crunchwrap, a grilled cheese bagel sandwich, and more.” Where can you get these tasty dishes? A food truck will be in the Arts District at 584 Mateo Street on Friday. On Saturday, trucks will be in Silver Lake at 3900 Sunset Boulevard and in Venice at 1107 Abbot Kinney Boulevard. Did I mention that they’re FREE? (Eater L.A., Taco Bell & Yeastie Boys Bagels)
