Partly Nude Man Arrested After Stealing Ambulance From LA County Stabbing Scene, Reports Say

The man walked up and stole the ambulance while authorities were tending to the stabbing victim near the Downey Library, the reports said.

DOWNEY, CA — A man lost his pants while police arrested him after he stole an ambulance while authorities were investigating a fatal stabbing in front of the Downey City Library on Saturday, according to reports.

The stabbing happened about 9:35 a.m. Saturday in front of the library, City News Service said, quoting Downey Police Lt. Dustin Doyle.

Paramedics tried to save the victim's life but he died at the scene, the report said.

As paramedics were tending to the victim, a man walked up and stole the ambulance that was parked at the site, KTLA reported.

Police gave chase, running after the ambulance in the parking lot then following by vehicle, the KTLA report said. The chase ended when the ambulance crashed on a residential street in Alhambra, that report said.

City News Service reported that man, identified only as 52 years old and living in Los Angeles, was arrested.

As he was arrested, his pants fell down, leaving him nude from the waist down, KTLA reported. Police pulled his pants back up, the report said.

The suspect in the stabbing, accused of stabbing the victim in the neck, was arrested at Downey High School, which was ordered to shelter-in-place until the 23-year-old man was caught, City News Service reported. The library was ordered to shelter in place as well, the report said.

None of the names of those involved were released.
