🤔 Aggressive Urban Coyotes or Regular L.A. County Wildlife? Poll!
We live with raccoons and opossums. Do coyotes fall into the same category? They don’t need open space, have no problems building dens close to humans, and are becoming more and more visible on our neighborhood streets. What do you think? So far, 60.5% think we need to learn to live with them, 37% want them gone, and 2.5% don’t care one way or the other.
📰 Here are the top stories today in Los Angeles:
1) On September 12, rapper PnB Rock was shot at Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘N Waffles near SoFi. On Tuesday, the PD made an arrest near Gardena. Another suspect is still on the run. (NBC)
2) On Tuesday, Mayor Eric Garcetti announced the grand opening of the Chesterfield Apartments. Located at 4723 South Normandie Avenue, these feature “42 new permanent supportive housing units that will be a sanctuary for formerly homeless seniors.” (Mayor of LA)
3) Last August, the LADWP fixed the filtration system for the Rowena Reservoir above-ground ponds and waterfall. On Wednesday, we learned that there is no plan to refill the ponds, due to the drought. Using recycled water is “too costly to pipe in.” This means the ponds remain empty, and the area is fenced off with the public kept out. (The Eastsider LA)
4) The K Line light rail, also known as the Crenshaw/LAX Line, will open on October 7, with a noon ribbon-cutting ceremony at Leimert Park. “Rides will be free, system-wide, that weekend from Friday through Sunday.” Construction had been ongoing since 2014. (Streetsblog LA)
5) Mark your calendars! Caltrans announced that it will close the 101 Freeway between White Oak Avenue and Balboa Boulevard, beginning Saturday at 10 p.m. and ending Sunday at 10 a.m. Caltrans will remove the Encino Avenue pedestrian bridge because it lacks vertical clearance. Partial closures of the 101 are expected as early as 10 p.m. on Friday. (Caltrans)

- "The Portable Universe/El Universo en Tus Manos" is a groundbreaking exhibition that presents the diversity and materiality of ancient Colombian cultures and reframes how we approach ancient Colombian art. (LA County Museum of Art via Instagram)
- "Recognize this place from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Ocean's Eleven, or Mad Men? 🎥 Musso & Frank Grill has served Los Angeles for 103 years today. While Hollywood has changed over the years, Musso and Frank's motto has stayed the same." (Discover Los Angeles via Facebook)
- "Some of the most important community landmarks are hidden in plain sight. The Corita Art Center fought an uphill battle to make the case that the humble structure that once housed the Sister Mary Corita Studio was worthy of saving." (Los Angeles Conservancy via Facebook)
- "Creators in Residence Showcase marks the culmination of the inaugural residency, highlighting new original work by photographer Kwasi Boyd-Bouldin and visual artist River Garza." (Los Angeles Public Library via Facebook)
- Our Palms-Studio South neighbor is sad that Darth Vader is retiring. We will miss him. An AI program will be replacing him. (Nextdoor)
