LOS ANGELES, CA -- Police are fundraising for a single mother in Los Angeles who was severely injured in a November hit-and-run where the driver reportedly left the scene sticking his middle finger out the window. Maria Torres was injured on Nov. 12 when a car struck her and her 11-year-old son while they crossed Denker Street in south Los Angeles.
Maria fell underneath the vehicle and was dragged for approximately 60 yards causing her to be hospitalized for over a month. She has broken legs, wrists, arms, back, rib cage, collar bone, and multiple lacerations all over her body due to the violent collision," the GoFundMe page launched for Torres said.
More than one month later, Torres is unable to work because of her injuries. She has also been unable to pay for her rent, the webpage stated.

Detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department hope to raise $40,000 to help Torres as she struggles to support her family.
"The South Traffic Division is fundraising to help make their rent payment ($850 per month) for a couple of months (until their mother can go back to work, which is estimated after she is able to walk again and regain use of her hands) so the family can avoid being evicted and make their holiday wishes come true," the GoFundMe page said.
