Postal Worker Shot While Delivering Mail In LA, Suspect At Large: Police

A man who shot a letter carrier who was delivering mail Monday morning remains at large, police said.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A man who shot a U.S. Postal Service carrier who was delivering mail in Los Angeles Monday morning remains at large and police are searching for the suspect, according to authorities.

The shooting occurred after 11 a.m. near Century Boulevard and Central Avenue in the Green Meadows section of South LA, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The victim, believed to be about 35 years old, was conscious and breathing when taken to a hospital, according to police.

Police said it does not appear a robbery was involved, ABC 7 reported.

"The United Sates Postal Inspection Service and the Los Angeles Police Department responded after receiving reports of a letter carrier who was shot in the South Los Angeles area," Postal Inspector Patricia Mendoza said in a statement. "The Postal Inspection Service can confirm the postal employee was shot. This is an active investigation, and no additional information can be provided at this time."

Aerial footage aired on Fox 11 shows officers set up a perimeter at the scene and were searching for the suspect.

The suspect was described as a 5-foot-7 man who weighs 150 pounds. He was wearing a black hat, black shirt and black pants. He was last seen fleeing east on Century Boulevard from Central Avenue toward Watts, police said.
