Project ReWear Hosts ‘Back to School’ Fashion Show

Project ReWear inspires sustainability, responsibility and a commitment to eco-conscious, high quality kids' wear.

Founder of Project ReWear, Kimberly Lau is a woman on a mission to promote kindness, compassion and responsibility by directly inspiring socially conscious decisions as a purveyor of previously loved kids' clothing. Project ReWear is located inside of DeFrenS, a Luxury Home Consignment shop in Westlake Village.

Lau is on a mission to make a significant positive change in her community and beyond, by providing a kids' clothing studio that brings forth eco-conscious clothing choices for children and teens to the forefront, stating, “Parents have an immense amount of power to influence the fashion industry through the choices that they make, when buying clothing for their children. By opting for preloved clothing, parents can drive significant change with broad environmental and social impacts.” Kimberly Lau spent four months curating stylish, high quality clothing items by visiting many Southern California thrift stores. Lau selected over 12,000 items for the launch of her clothing studio. By doing so, Lau greatly reduced textile waste, conserved resources, and helped to reduce the carbon footprint, giving life to over 3000 pounds of well-made clothing. Lau discussed the importance of moving away from “the fast fashion industry that thrives on the rapid consumption of cheaply made clothing;” clothing which ends up in landfills after only a few uses, by instead choosing preloved, great quality clothing. Lau and the parents who also make this choice as consumers, greatly extend the life of these garments, keeping them out of landfills by significantly reducing textile waste and reducing the carbon footprint.
Project ReWear provides a smart, eco-friendly alternative to fast fashion. Stating, “Our business model benefits parents through the provision of affordable, stylish options, and it provides a potential avenue for profit for resellers. Teaching my kids the values of love, empathy, compassion, and kindness is vital because these qualities are key to fostering a deep respect for our environment and building a sustainable future for all,” concludes Lau.

A stylish, and definitely impactful collection from Project ReWear will debut during a fashion show on August 24, 2024 at 790 Hampshire Road in Thousand Oaks. Parents can purchase the unique, preloved items from the show directly from the company’s website via A Mom on a Mission - Project ReWear. Due to limited seating the first fashion show of Project ReWear is generally closed to the public, to allow the family of the participants to be in attendance. Those who are passionate about purchasing well-curated, great quality preloved kids' clothing may reach out to Kimberly Lau as a few seats may be available.
