Reported School Shooting Prompts Large Police Response At LA Middle School
One student was taken into custody at the scene, according to police.
LOS ANGELES, CA — A report of a shooting at a South Los Angeles middle school prompted a large police response Thursday afternoon, but authorities found no evidence of any gunfire.
Officers were sent to Los Angeles Academy Middle School and STEAM Magnet, at 644 E. 56th St., just after noon Thursday to investigate, according to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman.
Police detained one student who was accused by another student of possibly having a gun. But authorities found no gun and determined there were no shots fired, ABC 7 reported.

Authorities made the determination that there was no shooting about an hour after the initial report, Fox 11 reported.
A Los Angeles Unified School District spokesperson provided the following statement to ABC 7:

"The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff remain my top priority. I am calling to advise you that our campus remains on lockdown due to a report received from a community member regarding a possible weapon on campus and an alleged shooting. The administrative team acted swiftly to address the matter with local law enforcement.
"Please note that we have no reported injuries and no evidence of a shooting. Students and staff remain safe at this time, while law enforcement and region staff continue to respond.
"We are continuing to follow District protocols, and all students and staff are safe. We will provide you with updates as they become available. Thank you."
Broadcast video showed patrol vehicles parked near the school's entrance as officers conducted a room-to-room search of the school.
