🤔 Aggressive Urban Coyotes or Regular L.A. County Wildlife? Poll Results!
We live with raccoons and opossums. Do coyotes fall into the same category? They don’t need open space, have no problems building dens close to humans, and are becoming more and more visible on our neighborhood streets. We asked your opinion. You responded; 60.3% think we need to learn to live with them, 38.2% want them gone, and 1.5% don’t care one way or the other. Thank you for participating!
📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:
1) We learned on Monday that Sylvia Wu, the owner of the iconic Madame Wu’s Garden eatery, died in September at the age of 106. Her restaurant was open from 1959 until 1998 and entertained the who’s who of Hollywood. “Madame Wu’s chef is rumored to have created the Chinese chicken salad for Cary Grant, which still lives on in restaurants throughout the U.S.” (LA Eater)
2) LAUSD ransomware attack update: The school district refused to pay up by Tuesday, and over the weekend, Vice Society released 500 GB of the data it stole. “It includes extremely sensitive details like Social Security numbers, bank account info, and health data that extends to students' psychological profiles.” If you or your child were affected by the data the extortionists released, you can call the LAUSD at 855-926-1129 “between 6 AM and 3:30 PM Pacific Monday through Friday, except for holidays.” (Engadget)
3) Two 17-year-olds stabbed a 56-year-old man on Saturday at Wall Street and Olympic Boulevard. They ran away but were caught. If you have the stomach for it, a video shows the fight just before the fatal stabbing. (ABC)
4) A newly constructed three-story single-family home at 421 Carroll Canal went up in flames on Monday. It took more than 100 firefighters almost an hour and a half to put it out. Nearby residences were also affected. There is no word yet on the financial loss or the cause of the blaze. (LAFD)
5) Mark your calendars! The SEIU 721 is mobilizing supporters to pack City Hall on October 12 at 9 a.m. The union says that the City is “proposing non-pensionable cash bonuses” and is asking “to give back the 40 hours of personal time” that were negotiated in 2021’s contract amendment. (SEIU 721)
