📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:
- Reportedly attempting to avoid another vehicle, a school bus driver lost control and crashed in the 1700 block of West 54th Street. The accident happened Friday morning around 7:30 a.m. when the bus clipped two cars and ran up a curb. Though the school bus crashed through some fencing, the driver only sustained minor injuries, and the students went to school on another bus. Officials advised it’s too early to determine the entire chain of events. (NBC, 2)
- In the 5600 block of Aldama Street, a hit-and-run driver struck and killed a pedestrian Friday morning around 9 a.m. Neighbors told police officers that the victim was a 60-year-old woman who was killed in front of her home. Officials did not reveal information on the driver or the vehicle. (KTLA)
- The rush is on to close escrow on any mansion currently on the market. Because L.A.’s increased real-estate transfer tax will start on April 1, sellers are motivated to make deals. Reportedly, one Bel Air hillside mega-mansion seller “promises a $1 million bonus to the broker who brings a successful buyer who closes escrow before April 1.” The mansion tax will add 4% to sales of $5 million. For over $10 million, the tax goes up to 5.5%. (Curbed/paywall)
- Playa Vista’s Loyola Marymount University campus has a problem. Recent rains are causing hillside collapses of The Bluff, which is near the campus where the school’s iconic LMU letters are installed. As of Friday, crews tried to save the display by covering it with plastic and putting sandbags around the letters. (Fox)
- Taiwan’s STARLUX Airlines will be flying into LAX. The luxury airline partnered with the L.A. Clippers to become its “Official International Airline Partner.” You can travel like a basketball player beginning April 26, when the airline debuts its Taipei-Los Angeles transpacific route. Watch for Clippers-themed products and pre-order your meals. (NBA)
