SigAlert: Fallen Tree Blocks Traffic On 170 Freeway

The CHP issued a SigAlert for the Hollywood Freeway where crews are working to remove a large tree blown over by the wind.

LOS ANGELES, CA — The powerful Santa Ana windstorm knocked a tree down onto the Hollywood (170) Freeway in the North Hollywood area Monday, backing up traffic heading out of Hollywood and north in the San Fernando Valley.

The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert for an unknown amount of time shortly before 11:30 a.m. The tree is blocking the number four lane on the northbound side of the freeway at Magnolia Boulevard, according to the CHP.

Crews are working to clear the lane. Commuters are advised to expect delays.

Wind gusts in the afternoon Tuesday are expected to reach 80 mph with isolated gusts in mountains, canyons and foothills topping 100 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Gusts that powerful can down power lines and trees and jackknife big rigs, trailers, creating an ongoing traffic hazard over the next 24 hours.
