SigAlert: Overturned Egg Truck Catches Fire In Los Angeles

The crash caused the truck to catch fire and spill groceries across the freeway in East LA, creating a massive debris field.

LOS ANGELES, CA — An overturned big rig carrying eggs spilled its load across the Golden State (5) Freeway in East Los Angeles Monday, triggering an hours-long SigAlert, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The truck appeared to have a broken axle, causing it to lose its front tires and flip, landing on its side across the number 2 and 3 lanes on the Southbound side of the freeway just north of Indiana Street just after 5:30 a.m., according to the CHP.

The crash caused the truck to catch fire and spill groceries across the freeway, creating a 600-foot-long debris field.

The Los Angeles Fire Department and a Hazmat cleanup team were called to the scene. The CHP issued a SigAlert shortly before 6 a.m. that was expected to last three to four hours.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area or expect delays.
