🎃 Halloween Poll!
Will you celebrate Halloween this year? Tell us your plans! So far, 43.8% are turning off their porch lights, 43.8% will hand out candy, 6.3% are attending a party, and another 6.3% will accompany children to go trick-or-treating.
📰 Here are the top stories in Los Angeles today:
1) A group of teens killed a liquor store worker. We learned on Friday that the 69-year-old man tried to stop four teens from robbing “Tony's Market on East Avenue 40.” He was hit over the head with a scooter and left to die. Bystanders, one of whom took video, tried to help the bleeding man. This crime comes on the heels of the killing of a Fashion District store owner by two teens. (Fox, KTLA)
2) On Thursday, the National Labor Relations Board approved the union recognition election for the 30 topless dancers at the Star Garden Topless Dive Bar on Lankershim Boulevard. The Board will mail out ballots on October 14 and count the votes on November 7. If the dancers vote to unionize, they could become affiliated with the Actors’ Equity Association. (Deadline)
3) A police chase involving a red Chevy Silverado truck came to an end in the Atwater Village neighborhood. The driver allegedly stole the truck “near the intersection of N. Figueroa Street and Riverside Drive.” The pursuit went through the Elysian Valley and ended when the truck crashed into a vehicle on Riverside Drive and Fletcher Drive. And, yes, the driver was arrested. (CBS)
4) Students at Crete Academy on Crenshaw were introduced to the Reading with a Rapper program. We learned on Friday that this Houston-based program is an excellent way for kids to process language. "My favorite part was probably where we got to look for similes, metaphors, idioms, stuff like that," a 6th grader explained. (ABC)
5) Mark your maps! There’s a 6th Street bridge takeover today, Sunday, but it’s the good kind! CicLAvia is running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and involves streets in the heart of DTLA. For drivers, this means finding alternative routes. (CicLAvia)
