Veteran CA News Anchor Heads To His 'Dream Job': Report

"I am so excited to join CNN and learn firsthand from some of the most talented journalists on the planet," the anchor said Thursday.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Veteran anchor Elex Michaelson is joining a new station a month after stepping down from his role at Fox 11 news, according to a report by CNN.

The 38-year-old will be joining CNN as a Los Angeles-based anchor, the network announced Thursday. He will be anchoring weeknights from 9 to 11 p.m. in Los Angeles, according to the report.

“I am so excited to join CNN and learn firsthand from some of the most talented journalists on the planet,” Michaelson said in a statement Thursday. “I’m especially grateful that CNN is expanding its investment in my hometown as the West Coast houses so many global leaders in politics, entertainment, technology, sports and more. This is truly a dream job.”

Michaelson announced he was leaving FOX 11 in August. He said in a social media post that although it was a "difficult" decision, he was pursuing an "exciting new opportunity" that he wasn't allowed to disclose at the time.

The anchor had been at FOX 11 since 2017, and co-anchored the the 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts with Christine Devine. He also anchored the 6 p.m. hour with Maria Tellez.

Michaelson, a native of Los Angeles, previously worked as a reporter for KABC-TV in Los Angeles and at XETV in San Diego.

Throughout his career, he's earned eight Emmys Awards, eight Golden Mikes and was named TV Journalist of the Year by the Los Angeles Press Club in 2023.
