LOS ANGELES, CA — A gathering that began as a candlelight vigil turned violent when Los Angeles Police Department officers came under attack in Hyde Park and at least eight patrol vehicles had their tires punctured.

Police were called to Crenshaw and Hyde Park boulevards at about 9:30 p.m. Monday regarding reports of a crowd blocking traffic at the intersection, KTLA5 reported.

KCAL9 reported a street takeover took place at the location and as the crowd grew, a call for backup was sent out as officers came under attack and were forced to form a skirmish line.
