SEAL BEACH, CA — The National Weather Service issued high surf and coastal flood advisories, urging those near Orange County beaches to be cautious of waves up to 12 feet tall and dangerous rip currents.

Through Wednesday morning, large breaking waves are expected to hit 5 to 8 feet at Orange County beaches, with local sets up to 12-feet-tall. Drowning risk will increase.

"Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions," forecasters said. "Very large waves can suddenly sweep across previously dry areas. Swimming or surfing in these waves may be dangerous for anyone due to the powerful waves and strong rip currents."

Forecasters predict high tides will also bring coastal flooding over normally dry sandy beach areas. Residents were advised to protect flood-prone property and were warned against driving around barricades or through water of unknown depth.
