SEAL BEACH, CA — Look alive, Seal Beach. The Seal Beach Police Department is holding a DUI Checkpoint from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday, March 7 at an undisclosed location within city limits.
"We encourage everyone to plan ahead and make responsible choices," SBPD Chief Michael Henderson told Patch. "If you plan to consume alcohol, please designate a sober driver, use ride-sharing services, or utilize public transportation to ensure a safe journey home."
According to Henderson, DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.

Residents were reminded by the SBPD that impaired driving does not only include alcohol intoxication. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with safe driving, and marijuana — whether recreational or medical — is considered impaired driving.
Drivers with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license, the department said.
