Gelding 'Cactus Jack' Dies At Los Alamitos Race Course

The four-year-old gelding is the 13th horse to die from a racing or training injury at the track.

SEAL BEACH, CA — A 4-year-old gelding with 19 career races has died after suffering a racing injury at Los Alamitos Race Course, state horse racing officials said Wednesday.

Cactus Jack was hurt in Sunday's ninth race and died Monday, according to the California Horse Racing Board. He had five first-place finishes in his career, but finished last in Sunday's race and never threatened. No further information was immediately available about his injury.

Cactus Jack is the 13th horse to die from a racing or training injury at the Cypress track this year. He was owned by Ed Allred, who also owns Los Alamitos Race Course.
